Safe water should be within everyone’s reach.
According to Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment, around 33% of the rural population lacks access to a safe water source within one kilometre. Although Uganda has about 146,000 domestic water points, more than 5,300 have remained non-functional for over five years, limiting reliable access to clean water for many communities.
To help address this challenge, the Nile Humanitarian Development Agency has constructed 96 boreholes across 16 districts in Uganda, serving thousands of villagers. With waterborne diseases still affecting many households, this initiative aims to provide reliable clean-water sources that improve the health of rural communities. However, water scarcity remains a serious issue, and further support is needed to reach the many villages that remain without safe water sources.
