Why school meals matter.
Malnutrition remains a serious challenge for many children in Uganda. According to UNICEF, around 26% of children under the age of five are stunted, while 86% experience child food poverty and almost one quarter face severe food poverty. These figures highlight how difficult it can be for many families to provide children with consistent access to nutritious meals.
To help address this issue, the Nile Humanitarian Foundation funded six food relief centres in local schools across the Mukono, Wakiso and Mpigi districts. Together, these centres provide regular meals to more than 865 students, helping ensure that children have access to nutritious food while they are at school.
