The distance between communities and opportunity.
Many villages and rural communities in Uganda lack the infrastructure required for safe and reliable transport. Across rural Uganda, 52.1% of communities are located five kilometres or more from a government secondary school. In some regions, the situation is even more severe: this figure rises to 73.3% in Acholi, 66.3% in Lango and 54% in West Nile.
To address transportation challenges that limit access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities, the Nile Humanitarian Agency distributed 161 bicycles. This initiative allowed families in rural Uganda to reach schools and workplaces more quickly and reliably, while also providing a practical means of transport for essential daily tasks such as hauling water.
